Chapter 12

“We found another lab. My team is ready to head out as soon as you give the go-ahead.” Strafe didn’t waste any time finding another mission to go on. He needed to put as much distance between himself and E.J. as possible.

He couldn’t even stay in his home, as it reminded him of his mate. The man had only been there for three hours, but it didn’t matter. Strafe could still see him in his bed. Maybe, with time, he’d be able to sleep there once more, but he wasn’t holding his breath for that moment.

Alek looked over the intel. He’d already been briefed, but Alek was the type of Alpha who wanted to check and double-check all factors in order to keep his people as safe as possible. “What time do you leave?”

Strafe glanced at his watch, not that he needed to. He’d been watching the clock for the last fifteen minutes as he’d waited for Alek to get there. “We’ll be wheels up in twenty.”

Alek’s large hand came down on Strafe’s shoulder. “You sure you want to do this?”

He knew what Alek was really asking was if he wanted to leave his mate again, but Strafe just didn’t see any other option. How was he supposed to stick around when he was bound to run into the man? “Yeah, I’m sure.”

Alek’s large hand squeezed his shoulder. “Then good luck.”

With a sharp nod, Strafe turned to start issuing orders to his men before gearing up himself. The trip would take an hour and a half. Thirty minutes from the drop point, Rangi would inform them of any changes with guards’ positions so they could make alterations to their plans. The aircraft wouldn’t land until they’d completed their mission, so they would parachute in.

Heading to the hanger where their gear was stored, he went over everything with a fine-tooth comb. As a wind shifter, he didn’t have to worry as much about his parachute, but he still double checked it to make sure it was secure.

Five minutes before they were to take off, the men grabbed their gear and headed onto the aircraft to strap themselves in. This team had been handpicked by Strafe, men he trusted with his life. Once he verified everyone else was on board, Strafe was the last to board, giving the pilot the go-ahead.

After an hour, Rangi came through his earpiece to discuss a few changes. The plan was distributed to everyone’s tablets and their comms were linked so they could start listening in. The doors opened and, as a team, they made the jump they’d done hundreds of times.

This lab was located in the Amazon jungle, hidden well under the canopy of trees. It closely bordered one of the Alliance Territories, but no one thought the South American Territory had anything to do with the lab. At least they hoped not.

The last thing they needed was another corrupt Territory. Talon Ramirez was still trying to clean up the Latin Territory, but he had a long road ahead of him.
